Time and planning
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Steve Jobs
We have just one life to live and that life is timed. I recall one of my favorite verses in the holy book as recounted by a man called Job:
Job 14:14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
Job reveals the truth that every man on the surface of the earth has an appointed time to live.
Quite unfortunately, within this fixed appointed time that we have as humans, we are also bombarded with gazillion measure of activities some of which are important, valuable and crucial and many of which are useless, time-wasting and irrelevant.
In the light of the above mentioned, you should understand that you do not have all the time to do everything in life, but you definitely do have just enough time to execute those things that are key and important to us.
Thus, you need to pause at this time and face the ever-important question you have been avoiding. The question is:
What are my priorities in life???
The story of many in life does not depict a good answer to the above question as many are seen living life just as it comes. The compass and direction of their lives are not fixed but resonates randomly and haphazardly to whatever circumstances comes their way.
Five years ago, the compass of their lives was pointing in a particular direction; two years ago, the compass of their lives is facing another direction. This year, the compass of their lives is facing another unknown direction.
This is why there are many motions in life, but no prioritized motives.
There are many actions in life, but no remarkable achievements.
Listen, if you will make your mark in the sands of time, you must take time to identify your priorities and plan for their execution.
One of the tragedies in life as mentioned by Steve Jobs is that many use their limited time in life to live the life of others.
Whilst you were much younger, you had your dreams and aspirations. You had an idea of where you were headed in life.
Today are those dreams the way you have envisioned them or there is a sharp variance between your earlier dreams and your current reality?
A vision not realized in time may end up as an illusion – Oluwayinka Idowu
Planning is a veritable key to actualize our life priorities.
Taking action in Time
The future has a way of arriving unannounced. George F. Will
The future is not the place we are going, it is the place we are creating.
If you show me your creation by what you are thinking, I will show you my creation by what I am doing.
Our actions in time is what determines our future.
The future is not a place waiting for you to come, your future is some actions away from you.
Just like my parents, I also have started seeing trappings of ageing and gradual depletion of strength. I am in my middle age and I sincerely admit that I am not as agile and strong as I was when I was in my teenage years. My children sometimes see signs of grey hairs on my beard and they get excited as they point my attention to them.
I, by these developments know my future has come and where I stand today in my future is an indication of what I have done with my time in the past. I realize that I am growing and going. I am going gradually into my future each time I breath and I act.
Your today is the future that you envisaged yesterday and your tomorrow is the future that you see today.
Call it your yesterday or your today or brandish it as your great future, they are all derivatives of the same reality; your appointed time.
Whether it’s the best of times or the worst of times, it’s the only time we’ve got. Art Buchwald.
